How do I contact Morningstar with additional questions?

Q: How do I create a new portfolio, import an existing portfolio from another site or software, or export my portfolio data?

A: Roll your mouse over “Create a Portfolio” in the top navigation bar of Portfolio Manager. You will see that the icons correspond to new portfolio, import, and export. Just click on the icon representing the task you wish to perform and follow the instructions. You enter the data yourself in New Portfolio. Import allows you to electronically import your portfolio from other web sites and software.

Export lets you export your portfolio share, ticker, and price data to a file that you can then paste into an Excel document. Create a portfolio now.

Q: How many portfolios can I have on Morningstar.com?

A: You can have up to 50 different portfolios on Morningstar.com

Q: How many holdings can I have in a portfolio?

A: You can have up to 100 stocks and funds, 20 bonds and 20 cash holdings in each portfolio on Morningstar.com. If you have more than that, you can track all your holdings by setting up more than one portfolio on Morningstar.com.

Q: How do I add or delete a holding?

A: In the portfolio navigation bar, you will see “Modify This Portfolio.” Click on the icon(s) in this section to add or delete a holding.

Q: My portfolio is showing duplicate holdings, how do I fix this?

A: Delete the duplicate holding. See above—“How do I add or delete a holding?”

Q: How do I enter/edit transaction purchases and sales?

A: You can record purchases and sales only in Transaction portfolios. After you have entered a holding in your portfolio, you will see an Edit icon to the left of each holding in your Tracking Views. Just click on that icon and you will be taken to a page where you can enter specific transactions.

Q: How do I enter splits or dividends?

A: You can enter splits and dividends only for Transaction portfolios. Find “Modify This Portfolio” in the top navigation bar of Portfolio Manager. As you roll your mouse over the icon, you will see the name change to “Record Splits/Divs.” Click on that icon and you’ll go to a list of the latest splits and dividends for your holdings. Check the box next to the splits or dividends you want included in your portfolio. Then click the Save button. You can also manually enter splits or dividends by clicking on the Edit icon to the left of each holding in your Tracking Views.

Q: How do I enter my transaction history?

A: Enter transactions for each holding in your Transaction portfolio by clicking on the Edit icon next to each holding.

The best picture of your portfolio will come from entering your original purchase date and all transactions since that time. However, that can be time-consuming. An alternative is to use today’s date and price as the starting point, adding transactions moving forward.

Q: How can I combine, rename, or delete portfolios?

A: Roll your mouse over the icons under “Organize Portfolio” in the top navigation bar of Portfolio Manager. You’ll see that each icon corresponds to combine, rename, or delete. Just click on the icon for the task you wish to perform and follow the instructions that appear.

Q: How do I convert a Watch List portfolio into a Transaction portfolio and vice versa?

A: Find “Organize Portfolio” in the top navigation bar of Portfolio Manager. Roll your mouse over the icons and you will see the name change to “Combine.” Click on that icon to go to the Combine/Delete page. Follow the instructions on that page.

Q: How can I change the data points and columns in my My View?

A: When you are in the My View section, click on the link titled "Customize My View" in the upper right. You'll be taken to a page that lists the universe of My View data points on the left and the ones you have selected on the right. Highlight the data points you want and use the buttons to move them in or out of your selections. Don't forget to click the Save button at the bottom of that page.

Q: How do I get all my data in My View to appear on my screen?

A: You can select up to 35 columns of data with My View. Depending upon the data points you selected, between six and eight columns are visible at a time. To see all 35 columns, simply scroll to the right.

Tip: Many people select Holding Name for one of their data points. This takes up a lot of space on your screen. To conserve screen space, select the shorter Ticker Symbol data point.

Tip: Include Ticker Symbol every sixth or seventh columns so that when you do scroll to the right in My View, you can more easily follow which row of data corresponds each of your holdings.
