Q: What is Instant X-Ray?

A: Instant X-Ray provides a quick overview analysis of your portfolio using Morningstar.com's proprietary portfolio analysis tools. You'll get insight into your portfolio diversification and what is driving your portfolio's performance.

Q: How does Instant X-Ray differ from Morningstar.com's Portfolio Manager?

A: Instant X-Ray is only a portion of the analysis that is available in Portfolio Manager. With Portfolio Manager, you can track your portfolio by Gain/Loss, Performance, Intraday, and more. You can also set up your own My View where you select the data points you want to track from a list of more than 150—the most on the Web. If you are a Premium Member, you'll also get access to X-Ray Interpreter—which explains your portfolio performance in plain English, Stock Intersection—to look at your underlying fund holdings and show your true exposure, plus detailed breakdowns of the eight analyses in Instant X-Ray.

Q: What information do I enter into Instant X-Ray?

A: Enter ticker information plus either the value in dollars or as a percentage of your portfolio.

Q: Why would I want to save my Instant X-Ray as a portfolio?

A: If you save your Instant X-Ray as a portfolio, you can then use Morningstar.com's Portfolio Manager to track and analyze your portfolio on an ongoing basis. If you do not save your Instant X-Ray as a portfolio, the data will not be saved.

Q: Do I need a portfolio on Morningstar.com to use Instant X-Ray?

A: No. Just enter your holding information and you can use Instant X-Ray. Then save your Instant X-Ray as a portfolio for future tracking and analysis in Morningstar.com's Portfolio Manager.

Q: Can I use Instant X-Ray on a portfolio I have already created and saved on Morningstar.com?

A: No. However, Premium Members do have access to even more X-Ray analysis than Instant X-Ray offers as part of their membership. Just go to Portfolio Manager and click on X-Ray.

Q: Why can't I see the Holding Details?

A: The Holding Details are available to Premium members. If you are a Premium Member and unable to see the Holding Details, you probably just need to log-in to Morningstar.com. If you are a Free Member or visitor to Morningstar.com, you'll need to upgrade to Premium Membership to access the Holding Details. For more about Premium Membership, click here.
